Looking for a Plumber? Beware of scams and misrepresentations

The last thing a property owner needs when facing a plumbing problem is an unscrupulous operator using the internet to misrepresent who they are in an attempt to steal business.

“If they pretend they’re someone else when you are looking for a plumber,” said Mark Carpenter, who independently owns and operates Benjamin Franklin Plumbing of Northern Illinois, “you really have to ask yourself what else will they misrepresent?”

When searching for services, especially brand name services such as Benjamin Franklin Plumbling, watch out for scams. Pay per click ads on sites such as Google often appear on the top of search engine results and the unsavory can pretend they are Benjmain Franklin Plumbing on the description line to mislead the unsuspecting to a totally different company and website.

“I can’t understand why someone would attempt to mislead people,” explained Carpenter. “I suppose Benjamin Franklin Plumbing is a target because of our impeccable reputation for quality service.”

As the image graphic below shows one way to spot a scam or phishing attempt is to look at the website address shown on the listings. If it’s not benjaminfranklinplumbing.com for general plumbing services or benfranklinnorthernillinois.com for trenchless sewer repair be careful. You may not end up with the right plumber for your job or the quality service you are looking for.
